Sanibel Fish House- $$

4 out of 5

What a cute little (actually huge, from the road it looks tiny) fish shack. I call it a fish shack, cause this is the atmosphere I get from it, rustic, quaint and just plain fun. And that was just the décor. Our server was the cutest little ball of fire, she was right on top of everything and even handled our little two-year-old grump like a breeze. He was smiling and eating out of her hand from the moment she gave him his crayons to having to take daddy’s fishy plate (the fish shaped plate he loved) back to the ‘fish plate aquarium’ to rest. (Tristan’s Mimi, my mom, later found little fishy plates on sale in their gift shop and bought him one). Tristan’s got to take home his plate as well. The Sanibel Fish House serves kid’s meals on Frisbees with their logo on them. They also give the choice to parents of a healthier applesauce option for a side then the typical fries. Tristan got a cheeseburger and I tried it, it was really good, especially for a kids meal. I appreciate that because often restaurants think kid’s meals don’t need to have as much thought as adult’s meals, but I say, hey kids like good food too!

We shared a terrific little appetizer, the crab and shrimp dip, the only problem with that one was it was gone too fast. I had the grouper blackened in the fish tacos as per our server’s recommendation. The taco itself was your average soft taco but the grouper inside was wonderful, and made the meal. I thought it was strange that they served it with the typical fish sauces on the side, tartar and cocktail sauce, instead of salsa and or sour cream, but otherwise it was good. Mimi got a delicious lobster roll, with real Maine lobster (we should know we are ‘Maine’iacs after all, my loving term for being from Maine originally). But my husband had the best sandwich by far, he had a lick your fingers when you’re done seared tuna steak sandwich.

Is there a funky cool little place you like to eat in Sanibel we did not mention? Please share it with us below.

Until the next time, enjoy the good life,
