The Blue Giraffe – $$-$$$

4.5 out of 5

YUM! This casual atmosphere restaurant with its divinely put together menu was a delicious treat from my crab cakes over Asian slaw drizzled with Thai red curry sauce, to the most decadent chocolate peanut butter pie I have had to date. The restaurant is decorated with, as you may have guessed, giraffes, some even blue. It is tucked into a little plaza with a beautiful waterfall and greenery, with both indoor and outdoor seating. It is nice, but not so fancy that you would feel uncomfortable if your two year old had a meltdown in the middle of dinner. Most people would just smile at you knowingly at this family restaurant as you quickly ushered your little hellion out. Eat what they recommend, three of us got recommended dishes and they truly were terrific (even the non favorite dish was wonderful though). We had between us, besides my crab cakes, the coconut shrimp, the apple roasted pork and a Sicilian pasta dish. For dessert, well the picture above says it all, we forgot to get a picture before we were finished. It went so fast, YUM, chocolate peanut butter pie. The staff was also fun and engaging. Funny thing is on Yelp this restaurant doesn’t get as good of a rating as The Island Cow, and I think lately that Island Cow has slipped a bit. We use to live in North Ft. Myers and had went quite a bit, we also still go every now and then when we come down to visit with my grandfather who still lives there. Still worth a visit but if you go there ask for favorites, last time I got a kabob special and as always the meat was a great quality but the kabobs had no flavor and weren’t cheap. Everyone thought the food was just ok, unlike back in the day at the Island Cow, so I would pick the Blue Giraffe instead, at least if you have to choose and can’t do both on vacation. These are two otherwise very comparable places.

Do you know any cool chill places to eat in Sanibel? Or maybe there is someplace you would like us to review on our next trip there? Let us know?

Until next time, enjoy the good life!
